Description: This is a very good copy of the First English edition, without dust jacket. The gold embossed lettering on the front cover is bright. The spine and boards are worn; the back board is water damaged; edges are rubbed; the spine is faded; else fine. The lovely original tipped-in color plates, including a frontispiece, are very well preserved. There is a previous owner's bookplate on the front pastedown; the prelims are foxed; the pages are age-toned; contents fine. This volume contains the journals of August Ludolf Friedrich Schaumann, Deputy Assistant Commissary General in the British Service in Spain, Portugal and France during the Peninsular War against Napoleon (1808-1812).
